Tales from the Wildlife Park Posted by Reef Magazine - 7 January 2012 The Koala Gallery is a great little spot for an easy, off-water activity. Also known as Wild Life Hamilton Island, the Koala Gallery offers an Australian wildlife experience as well as dining from breakfast through lunch. For those families on holiday with the kids travelling on the kids-eat-free package, I can’t imagine a more perfect spot for breakfast, where tables are arranged around the koalas themselves. Amongst the Australian animals there is McCulloch the crocodile, so named for the Australian brand of chainsaw. There is also Hippo the baby wombat, the koala crew led by Elvis, dingoes, cassowaries, kangaroos, and many parrots and reptiles. Three times a day the Koala Gallery runs animal photo sessions where you can have your picture taken with a koala or snake. There are also Park Keeper tours, where the morning tour takes in the marsupials and ‘roos, and the afternoon sees the reptiles and birds. Occasionally during the school holidays they run a barbecue and torchlight tour of the wildlife park. Best pack your nerves with that one! Entry to the koala Gallery is $20 per adult and $10.50 per child, and gives you unlimited access for the length of your stay on Hamilton Island*. TIP: The Koala Gallery is almost totally covered in shady trees. This makes it a great option for the middle of the day when you feel the need to escape the sun! * Prices correct at time of writing and are subject to change.
