Preparing for your Arrival What you need to know

Preparing for your arrival: What you need to know

How do I get there?

Flights

As the only island in the Whitsundays with its own commercial airport, access is easy with short, direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns and good connections from other Australia cities.

Ferry

There are also quick 30-60 minute ferry transfers connecting you between Hamilton Island, Shute Harbour and Port of Airlie. Carry on - if travelling via Cruise Whitsunday, you are limited by what you can safely carry. A luggage service is not provided. Your discounted ferry ticket for your first day will be emailed to you prior to your arrival.

Whether you’re flying in, or arriving by ferry, our Learning & Development team will be here to welcome you.

Packing Essentials

Whilst a number of household items can be purchased when you arrive on the island, you will require some essentials to see you through the first few days before you can get access to the mainland to do some shopping.

We have included below a checklist for you to ensure you have packed everything you will require on your arrival.

  • Money: the island is cashless, so you will need to ensure you have access to debit/card facilities.
  • Linen/Bedding: your accommodation is furnished, however sheets, towels, floor mats, blankets, pillow case, tea towels and a pillow are required. You can bring these with you or opt to purchase on arrival (see below).

A surcharge may apply for all ‘credit’ and ‘tap and go’ transactions made on the island via credit or debit card. Payments can be made fee free via EFTPOS, using a cheque and/or savings account at the terminal.

Transporting your belongings to the island

There are a number of options to assist in getting your belongings to the island:

Post Office

Mail can be addressed to your work post office box and your manager will collect all mail and distribute it to each employee at your workplace.

Address your parcels as follows:

If using a supplier such as Kmart, who do not recognise Hamilton Island addresses, you can use 1 Front Street as the address, however, you must add your correct PO Box in the notes.

Should the online store not accept a PO BOX Please divert to the below:
